Athletes Without Limits first met Sean O’Rourke at a disability cross-country event in Long Island. Since then he has dedicated his training to breaking barriers in Triathlon, becoming the first person with intellectual impairment to complete an Ironman. Â Sean, who’s impairments are associated with ingesting lead paint as a child, competes against non-disabled peers in the men’s open age group at major triathlons including:
- 2010 Nation’s Triathlon Olympic Distance
- 2012 MightyMan Montauk Half-Ironman (7:03:15)
- 2017 Lake Placid Ironman (14:14.49)
In the lead up to his Ironman Sean completed a training camp in the mountains of Oregon with Coach and Athletes Without Limits Co-founder Barry Holman and was featured in the Bend Bulletin.
