From 2010 to 2022 the Athletes Without Limoits DC-based Integrated Rowing Progam (now a separate organization called Unity Boat Club) became the largest Freedom Rows programs in the US. The club brought together athletes with intellectual impairment with disabled Veterans and others competing in unity at mainstream and disability regattas including yearly trips to the Head of the Charles in Boston.
Freedom Rows is USRowing’s national program dedicated to changing lives for disabled veterans and members of the armed forces. The goal of the program is to promote inclusion of disabled veterans in adaptive and para-rowing events via assistance from experts and coaches, who have tailored plans to help these veterans get on the water, fall in love with the sport and compete at the highest levels.
AWL’s DC-Based Rowing Program (now a separate organization called Unity Boat Club) united Athletes with intellectual impairment (AWL-IDD Row), Â Veteran’s with physical disabilities (AWL Veteran Leaders) and economically and racially diverse youth (AWL Youth Row) in partnership with non-disabled High School, Collage and Coaches. Training and competing together as ONE TEAM NO LIMITS!
FREEDOM ROWS is funded by the Grants for Adaptive Sports Programs for Disabled Veterans and Members of the Armed Forces (ASG Program). Since its inception in 2014, Freedom Rows has grown to more than 30 programs serving an average of 1,000 veterans each year. Learn more at: www.usrowing.org
