Tennis Opportunities for Players with Intellectual Impairment
TENNIS OPPORTUNITIES
We’re looking for US tennis players with intellectual disability to represent the US and compete at high-level Virtus and other tennis events throughout the world. Athletes must meet established criteria for intellectual impairment and apply for Virtus Eligibility.
Virtus Tennis events offer competition to athletes in three Virtus Eligibility Groups:
- Virtus II1-Intellectual Disability (IDD with IQ 75 or lower)
- Virtus II2-IDD with Trisomy 21/Translocation Down Syndrome (or Similar Significant Additional Impairment)
- Virtus II3-Autism+ (IQ 76 or higher)

HISTORY
- In 2013 Athletes Without Limits launched the first high-performance US Tennis Team for athletes with intellectual impairment. We are proud to have many strong players (including former Virtus World Champions) among our ranks.
- In 2016 Athletes Without Limits hosted the Virtus Tennis World Championships in Sea Colony, Delaware bringing a Virtus World Championship event to the U.S. for the first time (in any sport).
- In 2023 Kevin Meade represented the United States as part of our 6 sport (largest ever!) Athletes Without Limits National Team at the Virtus Global Games in Vichy, France.
- In 2024 three players represented the United States at the Virtus World Championships in Annecy, France. The US was one of three countries whose National Team included players in the Virtus II-3 competition group for athletes with high functioning Autism – a competition category unique to Athletes Without Limit and Virtus events.
